Shindoor Khela is a 400-year-old ritual in which married women come together in praise of the goddess Durga, while the rest of the sisterhood looks on, uninvited. The Times of India wanted to change this tradition of division by inviting the “forbidden” women: singles, widows, divorcees, prostitutes and transgenders. This year, Sindoor, the patriarchal symbol of division, will now unite women with a two-dot symbol of sisterhood
