Daniel Könnecke Joins FCB Hamburg as CEO

Press Release - Hamburg, 14 April 2015

Erika Darmstaedter to focus on global client Beiersdorf

FCB’s Worldwide CEO Carter Murray announced today the appointment of Daniel Könnecke as CEO of FCB Hamburg. Könnecke joins from Isobar Germany, where he was Managing Director & Chief Creative Officer and will start his new role over the summer.

“For the last 9 months, Erika and I have looked at different options to replace her as CEO of the agency as she, and her creative partner Constantin Kaloff, needed to focus on the growing needs of Beiersdorf globally,” said Murray. “When we both met with Daniel, it became clear that we had the right person to be the best partner for our clients and grow our business. And having a former CCO with strong digital track record as the CEO of the agency will only benefit our creative product,” said Murray.

Darmstaedter, who will remain an active member of the agency’s board of directors and help ensure a seamless transition for clients and staff, added: “Daniel is a charismatic, smart leader and this, coupled with his integrated portfolio and fresh, innovative thinking is sure to have a positive effect on both our agency culture and creative product. He is the perfect leader to embrace and enhance our new global positioning of Behavior Change”

Over nearly two decades, Könnecke has worked with clients across diverse categories including Nike, Coca-Cola, Goldwell, Philips, Deutsche Telekom, Yahoo!, Toblerone, Mercedes Benz and UNICEF. As well as winning over 150 awards, including 5 Cannes Lions, he has been a juror at several local and international award shows, including Cresta Awards and ADC Germany. Könnecke has been a member of the Art Directors Club since 2008.  Prior to Isobar, Könnecke worked in creative roles at Springer & Jacoby, DDB Tribal and established the Hamburg branch of Serviceplan’s digital agency Plan.Net as Managing Director & Executive Creative Director.

Könnecke commented, “With their outstanding personalities and their bold vision for FCB, it was not difficult for Carter and Erika to convince me to partner with them. The ambition of the whole agency is to become more modern, more digital and more innovative, which shows me that this is a great place to help to transform our industry and create truly behaviour changing work for our clients.”

Könnecke’s core team will be composed of Executive Creative Director Dirk Haeusermann, Managing Director Janina Levy and Head of Planning Clara Schmidt-von Groeling.
